Technical term – georeferencing
In a broad sense, georeferencing means positioning something geographically by means of a coordinate system. One can georeference landmarks, buildings, hotels, etc.
In historical UXO research, georeferencing of aerial photographs – e.g. with bomb craters – is often a very useful tool to delimit suspect areas. This technique allows for a very precise positioning of the elements on an aerial photograph in a specific coordinate system.
