Duds by the tons
During the archaeological survey at the site of the future housing estate ‘Ten Hove’ in Middelkerke, ammunition items of various calibers were found. Therefore Lobelle Studiebureau NV asked Bom-Be to carry out a UXO survey. Our multisensor surface detection showed a great number of anomalies in the soil of the 40.000 m² area. Approaching these points yielded 9 (nine!) tons of ammunition, with an exceptionally high number of large caliber artillery ‘duds’; meaning they had been fired, but didn’t explode on impact.
